A CARE home in Aberdeen has been forced to close after residents were put at serious risk medicine management issues.
The care inspectorate at Aberdeen City Council found one resident at Ruthrieston House went 13 days without prescribed medication, and another had medicine left in their mouth causing them to become drowsy.
Following a 13 weeks' improvement notice on 6 December, the VSA - which manages the home - said it was unable to make the improvements "in a satisfactory timeframe".
The home is set to close as soon as Aberdeen City Council finds suitable placements for residents.
Sue Freeth, chief executive officer at VSA, pledged to find roles for staff directly impacted by the closure and apologised to residents.
Freeth added: "Our priority continues to be ensuring our residents are safe and well cared for while they are in our care. A new manager who joined us this week will be leading the completion of the required improvements and the day to day service closure."
Since the first issues were identified in June, the Care Inspectorate set out five areas that needed to be tackled. These included better medicine recording, which the VSA said it had achieved by the October inspection.
