Cardinals O-line ranked low despite lack of holes by PFF

The Arizona Cardinals feel pretty good about their offensive line even though they likely will have new starters at three positions in 2024.

The line is expected to be Paris Johnson at left tackle, probably Evan Brown at left guard, Hjalte Froholdt at center, Will Hernandez at right guard and Jonah Williams at right tackle.

Brown and Williams are newcomers and Johnson has changed positions.

But even with a group the team feels good about, in PFF’s new rankings for all 32 NFL teams’ offensive lines, the Cardinals only come in 26th.

The Cardinals’ offensive line is without any truly weak links but also lacks above-average players.

Moving from right side to left tackle, Paris Johnson Jr. is expected to live up to his potential in his second season after ranking just 57th in PFF overall grade among offensive tackles as a rookie in 2023. Arizona also signed Evan Brown and Jonah Williams in free agency to further stabilize the offensive line.

To have no weak links and be ranked so lowly is odd. The hope is Johnson is more than just an average player. Hernandez is above average. Williams was a better right tackle than left tackle, based on certain metrics.

The tackle positions are questions simply because of the new players starting there and left guard was a revolving door last season with four different players starting.

For a group of seemingly average talent, the Cardinals get a very below average ranking.

We expect them to outperform that ranking.
