Cardiff council's leader has admitted he was "concerned" by the transport chaos when the capital city hosted three nights of Ed Sheeran concerts. Trains were impacted as were the roads, with miles of tailbacks.
In May's elections Huw Thomas was re-elected as the council leader at the end of last month, having already held the post since the 2017 local elections. His Labour party upped its seats from 40 to 55 in the election.
However, there are still big projects people want to see delivered including the delayed city bus station, a Metro transport scheme which is overspent as well as housing, the cost of living crisis and climate emergency. Councillor Thomas said that housing and the cost of living crisis is the first thing he wants to tackle. He said he is "as keen as anybody" to get the bus station opened and said while no definite plans yet exist about a city congestion charge, work is going on behind the scenes into those.
