Cardiff City player ratings as trio have shockers against Huddersfield Town but starlet has bright cameo

Jak Alnwick 6

Had a couple of routine saves in the first half, the first in the second minute from Danny Ward. Commanded his area relatively well and was neat with the ball at his feet. Couldn't expect him to do anything with either goal.

Mahlon Romeo 6

Another solid display. Stopped a number of crosses into the box and was bombing down that right flank non-stop. He has been a good addition to this squad.

Mark McGuinness 7 (star man)

Had to do quite a bit of defending in the first half and stood up to the task well. Hit one awful pass which almost allowed Huddersfield in, but apart from that, very good.

Cedric Kipre 6

Strong in the air, good with the ball and just adds another dimension to City's back line. Had to be alert to quell some dangerous crosses. Was playing like a colossus, but maybe could have come for the ball, which Sawyers left short, for Joseph Hungbo's goal.

Jack Simpson 4

He has his limitations but was having a pretty solid game until he put Sawyers in a bit of bother in the lead-up to Hungbo's goal. Should have done better for his own goal, too, with Matty Pearson outdoing him at the back post before heading it on to the defender's boot.

Joe Ralls (c) 6

Put in an early, bone-crunching challenge to get the crowd going. Another who barely put a foot wrong at left wing-back. Defended well and careful in possession. Brought off injured just after the break.

Ryan Wintle 5

Can see he benefits from this system and passing style of play. Far more involved than when it is more direct. Did alright there in the middle..

Romaine Sawyers 3

Was used far more by the centre-backs, although did slow down play a little. Made a cracking sliding stop to deny a Jack Rudoni shot. Faded after the break, though, with a number of terrible passes placing City in trouble. His massive error handed Hungbo the ball for the goal.

Jaden Philogene 6

Started quite slowly and had a couple of uncharacteristically bad touches and hit one shot way over the bar. Improved, though, and lofted the goalkeeper only to see the ball hit the side-netting. His low cross led to Isaak Davies' goal.

Sheyi Ojo 3

Took the ball with his back to goal and ran down a few blind alleys. He, like Sawyers, also gave the ball away and slowed things down a little too much after break. Gifted the ball to Hungbo after his goal but Jaheim Headley blasted over. Lost it again which allowed Josh Koroma to smash the post. A bad afternoon.

Kion Etete N/A

Came off after just 13 minutes following a challenge from Jonathan Hogg.

Subs

Sory Kaba (Etete '13) 5 - Did struggle to hold the ball up as the lone striker for a while, but when he started linking with Philogene he grew into the match.

Isaak Davies (Ralls '55) 7 - Looked bright when he came on. Won the corner which led to the goal and took his goal really well, backheeling it in.

Connor Wickham (Sawyers '73) 5 - Won one or two aerial duels but didn't do a great deal other than that.

Rubin Colwill (Romeo '73) 6 - Another bright cameo. Had one fantastic effort saved brilliantly by Lee Nicholls in the 90th minute. Tried to add a spark.

Andy Rinomhota (Kipre '73) 5 - Just told to plug a gap late in the piece when City were backs-to-the-wall.
