Cardiff City player ratings as Man City kid shows class but late mistakes so costly

Alex Smithies 7

Came off his line smartly and decisively in the howling wind. Made a couple of comfortable saves and was good with his feet.

Perry Ng 6

So positive in stepping out of his defensive line to nick the ball, on one such occasion he set up a chance for Isaak Davies. Gave Russell too much space for the winner.

Aden Flint 6

A really solid performance for the most part but just lost concentration a little late on. Had a part to play in Russell's goal, too.

Mark McGuinness 5

Almost turned home an early header to give Cardiff the lead, then followed it up with a horror tackle to pick up a yellow.

Cody Drameh 7

A couple of trademark bursts down the wing allowed him to show just what he's all about. Another good night out for him.

Ryan Wintle 7

Had to have his wits about him in the middle of the park and put in another top display.

Will Vaulks 8

Continued his run of good form at Huddersfield. In both defence and attack he was very good, his best game for a while.

Tommy Doyle 8 (star man)

Looked threatening when Cardiff were on the front foot. Sent in some dangerous crosses and took his chance incredibly well.

Joel Bagan 6

A quieter night for the left back - but he was due one! Up against Sorba Thomas and did well enough. Tired a bit later on.

Isaak Davies 6

Cannot fault his work rate, but just knocked off the ball once or twice and lost his footing at a crucial time when in on goal.

Jordan Hugill 6

Showed good movement and hold-up play. Had a few chances which he just couldn't convert. On another day he would have bagged a couple.

Subs

Mark Harris (on for Davies 64) 5 - Had a chance to put the game to bed but completely fluffed his lines.

Joe Ralls (on for Doyle 77) 6 - Did well enough when he came on, created a chance or two.

Uche Ikpeazu (on for Hugill 82) NA - Had one chance on goal, turning a difficult cross towards goal.
