Cardiff City news as duo receive international call-ups and Leeds United's Cody Drameh subject of Championship interest

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, May 30.

Colwill and King called up

Rubin Colwill and Eli King have been called up for the Wales under-21s squad for their game against Denmark next month.

Colwill went to the World Cup with the senior side last November, of course, and even came on in the final game against England in Qatar.

But the season was stunted for him, owing to yet more injuries which led to decreased game time. The constant turnover of managers didn't help, either.

There is no doubt, however, that the 20-year-old has bags of potential and the next 12 months could prove pivotal in his career. Rob Page wants him to use his time in the under-21s to show him just what he, and Cardiff City, have been missing out on.

As for King, he had a productive spell out on loan at Crewe at the beginning of last season, before coming back to Cardiff's under-21s. He just couldn't force his way into the first-team, though.

Boss Matt Jones has also selected 16-year-old Charlie Crew, once of the Cardiff academy before moving to Leeds United, after he impressed for the under-17s at the U17 Euros.

Wales U21: Ed BEACH (Chelsea), Cian TYLER (Coventry City), Evan WATTS (Swansea City), Jay WILLIAMS (Fulham), Matt BAKER (Stoke City), Luca HOOLE (Bristol Rovers), Zac ASHWORTH (West Bromwich Albion), Owen BECK (Liverpool), Fin STEVENS (Brentford), Harry LEESON (Bristol City), Eli KING (Cardiff City), Owen HESKETH (Wolves), Joel COTTERILL (Swansea City), Charlie SAVAGE (Manchester United), Oli HAMMOND (Nottingham Forest), Jadan RAYMOND (Crystal Palace), Ben LLOYD (Swansea City), Charlie CREW (Leeds United), Cameron CONGREVE (Swansea City), Rubin COLWILL (Cardiff City), Pat JONES (Huddersfield Town), Josh THOMAS (Swansea City), Josh FARRELL (CF Villanovense), Joe TAYLOR (Luton Town).

Prem and Championship clubs interested in Drameh

Leeds United could yet keep hold of Cody Drameh, however clubs from the Premier League and Championship are thought to be keen on the ex-Cardiff City loanee.

Drameh was Cardiff's player of the season in the 2021/22 campaign, after joining in January 2022 and showing just how much quality he had with a barnstorming spell in the Welsh capital.

It was thought he would go back to Leeds and play a pretty crucial role in their Premier League season, however after just one league start he was made available for loan in January.

It is understood Cardiff registered their interest in taking him for the second half of the campaign, however, with no manager in place, Drameh instead opted for Luton Town. A good decision, by all accounts, as he played a huge part in helping them to achieve promotion through the play-offs last weekend.

So, what does the future look like for the 21-year-old? Well, the Yorkshire Evening Post say that "several clubs in the Championship and newly-promoted Premier League sides are interested in the full-back’s services". Luton, no doubt, will be one of those.

Cardiff would love him back in the Welsh capital, no doubt, although it appears the lightning-quick youngster has likely outgrown the Bluebirds now.

Manager search latest

Cardiff's manager search has entered its third week and still we are told prospective managers have been spoken to.

Sources at the club say they are using time which is typically ill-afforded to them due to them usually having to appoint managers within a matter of days in the middle of a season.

They have spoken to candidates both at home and abroad and it is understood others are being spoken to this week. What will help speed this process along now, Cardiff fans will hope, is that the Premier League and play-off games are over and focus will now turn to next season for every club, which could help grease the wheels, somewhat.

It is hoped, though, that there will be some meaningful movement this week.

Sory Kaba omitted from Guinea squad

Sory Kaba has been omitted from the Guinean squad for their upcoming AFCON qualifier against Egypt and friendly against Brazil, despite a superb half-season loan with Cardiff City.

It is no exaggeration to say that Kaba was a huge reason why Cardiff maintained their Championship status. The striker, who came on loan from FC Mitdjylland, scored eight goals in 17 games for the Bluebirds and brought a whole new dynamic to the attack.

After such excellent form, it is surprising to see that he has been left out of the Guinean squad.

Speaking about the decision, head coach Kaba Diawara said: “There are about 50 Guinean players (to choose from). Sory Kaba, he scored in club football, yes, and (Ibrahima Sory) Sankhon is also the former best player in the Guinean championship.

"There is a group logic that is created I made choices, that is all."

Quite what the future has in store for Kaba is anyone's guess at present. Cardiff clearly want him back, but Midtjylland might want to keep hold of him themselves. Failing that, they will want a lofty transfer fee, which Cardiff cannot pay at present due to their partial transfer embargo.
