Cardiff City announce exit of Mark Harris after new contract talks come to nothing

Cardiff City have announced the departure of striker Mark Harris.

Harris had been in talks with the Bluebirds over a new contract after his original deal had come to an end this summer. Cardiff had omitted the Wales striker from their released list published earlier this month but it has now been decided the 24-year-old will move on.

New boss Erol Bulut will be undertaking a huge squad rebuild this summer, with up to 10 players set to come in at Cardiff City Stadium.

In a statement, Cardiff thanked the forward for being a “model professional” during his time with the club.

They said: "Cardiff City FC can confirm that Mark Harris will leave the club this summer. Sparky, an academy graduate, made his first team debut in the Emirates FA Cup against Fulham in 2017.

"Following loan spells with Wrexham, Port Vale and Newport County, his City first team career began afresh from late November 2020 onwards, when Harris netted on his first start Bluebirds in over three years, scoring inside nine minutes as City defeated Luton Town, 4-0, at Cardiff City Stadium. Overall, the five-time Welsh international netted nine competitive goals for City, including three strikes in important victories over Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland last term.

"We’d like to thank Sparky for his services throughout his time with the club. Mark has been a model professional and departs with the very best wishes from the board, management and staff at Cardiff City."
