Caravan park plans in place for grounds of Necarne Castle

Plans are in place for the development of a 23 site caravan park at Necarne Castle in Irvinestown.

The private company which holds the lease for the estate has submitted a planning application for the development to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

Work has begun on the stabilisation of the 17th century castle, with the proposed site of the caravan park in one of the estate’s current car parks.

Gardrum Holdings is the 99-year leaseholder of the estate, with a report provided to the council’s Environmental Services Committee saying the new development will ‘widen the attraction’ for overnight tourists in the area.

Councillors on the committee approved the granting of consent for a planning application to be made by Gardrum.

The report said: “Gardrum Holdings Ltd holds a 99-year lease of Necarne Estate and, under the terms of the lease, a request has been received seeking Council consent for the submission of a planning application for the development of a touring caravan park.

“It is proposed the caravan park will comprise 23 touring caravan pitches and associated infrastructure including road improvements and landscaping.

“The application site is an overspill car park located within the estate and it is the most northern and least utilised car park.

“The proposed touring caravan park will widen the attraction of Necarne Estate and cater for overnight tourists to the area and it also forms part of the tenant’s development obligations under the terms of the lease.

“It is therefore appropriate for the Council to grant consent for the submission of a planning application.”
