The vehicle excise duty (VED) system is undergoing significant modifications that will result in higher payments for millions of car buyers starting in April.
When a new car is first put on the road, its vehicle tax is always higher. After that, it is is payable in different bands which start at nil for zero-emissions cars, rising to just over £710 a year for cars that had a list price of more than £40,000. VED rates will go up in April in line with inflation.
