However, £162,366 was spent on 'management costs', which included marketing expenditure of just under £21,000 and 'fundraising consultancy fees of over £125,000, more than 10% of the total donation.

Of this, reimbursement payments amounting to £37,942 were made to Maytrix Group Limited. An additional £16,097 was reimbursed to Club Nook Limited, another company.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Tom's daughter, and her husband are directors for both of these companies.

In total, the support costs of the charity totalled £209,433, surpassing that of the allocated grants. A further £695,889 of the £1,096,526. has yet to be spent by the charity.

A statement within the report, from the charity's chairman reads: "The Foundation was set up by the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore, initially to secure a lasting legacy for the substantial fundraising efforts for NHS Charities Together, which were raised via JustGiving."

In the financial review, the foundation justified the high management costs stating: "As a newly established charity, expenditure has been incurred in building the team, which for some months worked on a voluntary basis until funds were forthcoming.

"During this period, we also incurred costs in appointing The Philanthropy Company who provided expert support on governance and fundraising initiatives as well as working with our charity partners to identify initiatives that the Foundation could support and which would drive value and public benefit."

On the anniversary of Captain Tom's death, his daughter Hannah said: "It is very important to our family that the Captain Tom Foundation continues his wonderful legacy by celebrating our ageing population and connecting the generations, just as he did."
