A Kentucky appeals court has stopped a lower court from investigating the mental capacity of Tamara Williams, a widow who rejected her late husband's will to claim a larger share of his estate. The appeals court ruled that district courts do not have the legal authority to handle disputed family cases of this kind. On 23 October 2026, the Kentucky Court of Appeals issued a writ of prohibition ordering the Montgomery District Court to stop all proceedings into Tamara's mental state. The judges unanimously ruled that the district court had acted beyond its legal powers. They said disputed claims involving undue influence and mental incapacity must be heard in circuit court. The decision follows a dispute over the estate of Julian D. Williams, who died in February 2023. He left behind a substantial estate and a will naming his two adult children from an earlier marriage, Jeffrey C. Williams and Leslie A. Williams, as co-executors.
