Federal authorities have announced that members of Congress will now receive security measures akin to those provided during the Super Bowl, with the day being designated as a national special security event by the Secret Service.
This designation holds significant importance in terms of the security preparations that will be put in place around the Capitol on January 6th, 2025. This date marks the certification of the election results by lawmakers, regardless of the outcome of the November elections. Just a few years ago, this date was marred by a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol, resulting in over 100 Capitol Police officers sustaining injuries.
