Over 84,000 students will get an end to an anxious wait on Thursday - as colleges issue their first round of offers for places through the CAO this afternoon.
Many courses rose sharply last year due to grade inflation and the extra demand for places following the COVID-affected Leaving Certificates of 2020 and 2021.
But things are expected to look a little more normal on Thursday when the Central Applications Office (CAO) delivers the results to the thousands of applicants.

When are the CAO Round One Offers released?
The first round of CAO offers will be available to students from 2pm on Thursday.
How do I get my CAO Offer?
You need to log on to CAO.ie and ensure that you have three key pieces of information:
- Your CAO application number
- Your date of birth
- Your CAO account password
I've been offered a course I want- what do I do now?
You have to make a decision whether to accept any offer you've been given by September 14 at 3pm.
If you choose to accept your first offer, then you will be contacted by your chosen college accordingly.
What if I get an offer of a college place but not the one I want?
First things first - relax. It isn't the end of the world if you don't get the offer that you expect today.
There are a couple of options available to you.
Firstly, you can wait to see if you are offered a place during the Round Two offers - issued on September 19.
The CAO also has an Available Place facility, where colleges and universities publish particular courses where there are vacancies from offers that haven't been accepted in Round One.
That option becomes available on Friday (September 9)
What if I want to defer?
Deferring is an option that many students may have to take due to cost of living, an unavailability of accommodation or digs, or other reasons.
You have to email the admissions office of the appropriate college as soon as possible, stating that you wish to defer.
Most importantly, do not accept your offer.
