Canoe fraudster John Darwin has been spotted out shopping in the heat of the Philippines. It's a world away from the freezing spot in County Durham where he launched an audacious bid to fake his death 20 years ago.
Many will remember when John Darwin plotted with his first wife, Anne, to swindle nearly £700,000 through life insurance and pensions by faking his own death in a canoe in the North Sea.
Now, 20 years later, the story is about to re-enter our lives in an ITV drama detailing the plan. And Darwin, now 71, has been pictured shopping at the aptly named Wilcon hardware store, reports The Mirror.
