A Canadian software company has said it will double headcount at its Belfast office after setting up a base in the city in 2021.
Optiva Inc, which provides revenue management software and is listed on the Toronto stock market, intends to grow its employee number to 40 from 21 currently, with roles available in software engineering and technology development. The company said they offer competitive salaries and will contribute over £2.4 million a year in wages to the Northern Ireland economy.
The company’s site lead Richard McLaughlin said he is “delighted” with the progress the Belfast team has made since setting up 18 months ago. He also said Northern Ireland fought off stiff competition from across Europe for the company’s investment.
“Whilst we examined other locations across Europe, Northern Ireland was a logical choice for our first Centre of Excellence, given its reputation as a thriving technology centre and concentration of global software companies, universities and talent.
“We are now growing at pace and are actively recruiting across a range of software engineering roles to help us realise our ambition to be a global leader in the provision of mission-critical, cloud-native monetisation solutions for CSPs globally.”
He thanked Invest Northern Ireland for its support. The agency provided advice on location, helped it to find suitable office space and offered support towards the creation of the new roles.
George McKinney, Invest NI’s Director of Technology & Services, welcomed the company to Northern Ireland.
“Optiva’s Belfast centre fosters collaboration and innovation to support the development and delivery of its cloud-native software solutions globally,” he said. “This new expansion underlines the company’s commitment to Northern Ireland, which will allow it to continue to benefit from our highly skilled talent pool.
