Canada’s Bombardier responds to Trump’s threat to ban jet sales in US

  • U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to ban sales of Canadian aerospace company Bombardier 's aircraft in the United States unless the firm manufactures its planes locally.
  • Posting on social media, Trump stated that Bombardier's products “aren’t good enough” and insisted that the company must build in America and stop treating the nation like a “piggybank.”
  • Bombardier responded by emphasizing its strong integration with the American market, pointing out that its supply chain relies on roughly 2,800 U.S. companies across 47 states, including manufacturing jet wings in Texas.
  • “Bombardier values its great partnership with American companies and its U.S. employees. Our plan is to continue to invest in our people, our customers, and the communities in which we operate across the country,” it said.
  • The conflict comes after Canada-U.S. trade negotiations collapsed on August 21, leading the Trump administration to launch a barrage of tariffs, threats, and personal attacks against Canada. Tensions are also tied to defense procurement after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney opted to buy early warning radar planes from Saab and Bombardier over American competitors, while also re-evaluating Canada's purchase of U.S. F-35 fighter jets.
