Canada citizenship certificate wait jumps to 25 months; backlog crosses 121,000

The wait for a proof of Canadian citizenship certificate has risen to 25 months, up from 19 months in July and 12 months in May, according to a report by CIC News. The number of applications awaiting a decision from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has also crossed 100,000, reaching 121,800 as of August 10.

The backlog increased by around 22,300 applications from July, marking a 22% rise. The sharp increase comes as IRCC deals with a surge in applications for proof of citizenship.
