Canada changes evidence requirements for citizenship-by-descent applicants

Canada has tightened documentation requirements for people applying for citizenship by descent, requiring applicants to provide records issued by original government authorities and evidence covering every generation in their family line. The changes come as Canadian authorities review some previously approved citizenship cases and temporarily pause processing of certain applications under examination.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently updated its proof of citizenship guidance and application checklist, raising the documentary standards for applicants seeking citizenship through a Canadian parent, grandparent or earlier ancestor, as reported by CIC News.
