Leeds have been busy this window, splashing their cash with over £100m spent on new arrivals while unfortunately letting go of some club stalwarts in the process. But Jesse Marsch has used the funds from big money exits to finally secure some long-term transfer targets that could help the club climb higher up the table.
More than 7000 Leeds supporters have had their say in their club’s transfer activity, and more than 96% of them believe the purchase of Brenden Aaronson was a good deal. The midfielder arrived in the opening weeks of the transfer window from Salzburg for just shy of £30m, and his performances in Leeds’ pre-season and first three PL fixtures has clearly had an impact on supporters.
Leeds’ new arrivals have all impressed so far, as almost every arrival has been rated a good deal by more than 90% of fans in our good deal/bad deal forum. Aaronson is clearly their favourite, but the addition of Marc Roca from Bayern Munich is a close second as just shy of 93% of respondents have approved the deal.
But do fans think these fresh faces are worth the loss of two key players in last season’s squad? Raphinha followed his dreams all the way to Barcelona in a deal that swelled Leeds' coffers by £52m. Despite the club’s big payday, more than 40% of fans think this was a bad deal for the club.
Another exit that hit the fan base hard was Kalvin Phillips, who was sold to Premier League rival Man City for just under £44m. The move has been the most divisive so far, with a near 50/50 split of responses. The defensive midfielder’s loss has been hard to cope with, but these two big exits have facilitated a complete overhaul of many positions in the squad that could leave it stronger than ever.
