British number one Cameron Norrie suffered a second-round exit at the Monte-Carlo Masters following a three-set defeat to fifth seed Alex De Minaur.

After dropping a tight opening set on a tie-break, Norrie won five games in a row en route to forcing a decider.

But Australian De Minaur broke serve twice at the start of the final set before progressing 7-6 (5) 2-6 6-2 to set up a last-16 meeting with either 10th seed Flavio Cobolli or Belgian qualifier Alexander Blockx.

It comes after fellow Brit Katie Boulter made a swift exit at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open on Monday after losing 7-6 (3) 7-6 (2) in the opening round to Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Boulter was quickly playing catch-up in the opening set after losing her first two service games, but twice hit back, the second time to level it up at 4-4 before being edged out in the tie-break.

The British number three broke Ruse's serve for a third time to go 1-0 up in the second, but the Romanian responded immediately and both players lost their serves again in a see-saw encounter on the indoor hard court.

Boulter staved off match point at 6-5 down to force another tie-break, but Ruse held the edge again and two mini-breaks gave her a 5-2 lead before the world number 87 served out to seal the match.

World number 62 Boulter won her fourth career WTA Tour title at the Ostrava Open in February and reached the last eight at the Merida Open in Mexico, but bowed out in the second and third rounds respectively at Indian Wells and the Miami Open before this latest defeat.
