Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell admits the referee got it right by abandoning their West of Scotland Premier League clash at Largs Thistle due to “horrendous” weather.
But Campbell admits he would have liked to get a game on in preparation for a trip to league-leaders Hurlford United this weekend.
The clash at Barrfields Park was called off after 25 minutes at 0-0, much to the fury of some supporters.
But Campbell says horizontal rain and howling wind made the game impossible to play.
He said: “In defence of the referee the weather was awful. The ball was coming back on players.
“We were shooting with the wind, so we had a bit of an advantage in the first half – if you can call it that – but it was very difficult to play in.
“The referee gave it 20 minutes then came to us and said ‘look, I’ve made the decision to abandon it’.
“The boys were saying if it dies down could he give it 15 minutes longer, but he basically said the decision was made.
“It was horizontal rain at that point, and the wind was the worst I’ve ever seen it – it was absolutely horrendous.
“I was hoping he could maybe cut us a wee bit of slack and maybe give it a wee break to see if it stopped, but he had made his decision.
“We just need to abide by it. It’s a bit frustrating, but there’s not much you can do about the weather.”
Campbell says there’s now a concern that fixtures will pile up over the next few months.
He said: “It does back up on you, and all of a sudden you end up playing on a Wednesday night and all of that, which isn’t convenient by any manner.
“But for all the things we can affect, we can’t affect the weather. We just need to go with it.”
Second-bottom Rangers now face a daunting trek to Hurlford and Billy said: “Hurlford is a really tough game.
“We were hoping to get the game in on Saturday to get us prepared in some shape or form.
“It’s a massive game against Hurlford on Saturday, and away from home as well.
“We need to take it a game at a time, go in and do the best we can.”
