Cam Newton isn't planning on hanging up the cleats, despite sitting out the entire 2022 NFL season.
On Wednesday, the former MVP quarterback posted a video listing quarterbacks he would be interested in backing up.
The 34 year-old oft-injured signal-caller started off by stating “there are not 32 guys better than me”, but then quickly pivoted to indicate his interest in serving in a potential backup role.
Newton listed: DeShaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, Malik Willis, Jalen Hurts, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen and Sam Howell as QBs he would welcome playing behind.
During the listing of his most desired backup jobs, he also took the time to pause and highlight three rookie quarterbacks he would “love to help groom”: C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson.
“If you think about the list, it’s really to the point,” Newton said. ”Some of those guys may already have penciled in backups that their franchises are okay with and that’s fine. I am just voicing my opinion and I am just getting the narrative out.”
Cam Newton listed out 12 QBs he wouldn't mind being a backup to, including...

The No. 1 pick of the 2011 NFL Draft has thrown for 32,382 yards with 194 touchdowns and 123 interceptions in his 11 seasons in the NFL. He hasn’t held a full-time starting job since he threw eight touchdowns and 10 picks in 15 starts with the Patriots in 2020, but it appears if the situation is right, he could return to the gridiron in a reserve role.
