Callum McGregor injury not 'short-term' says Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has confirmed that Celtic captain Callum McGregor faces a spell on the sidelines.

The Hoops skipper suffered a knee injury against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.

The Scotland international came off worse after a tackle in the lead up to Leipzig's second goal of the evening.

There were serious worries about the extent of the injury.

Now, it has been revealed that the recovery period is not short-term.

Postecoglou told Sky Sports: "He's off to see a specialist this morning, for him to come off (against RB Leipzig) it's fairly significant.

"Timeline wise we'll find out today. It's obviously not short-term but we hope it's not too long-term.

"He's a fantastic player and beyond that, it's his influence on and off the field as a leader.

"There's not one person that can replace that, it will be a case of the other guys stepping up and filling the breach.

"We missed him for a few games last year and it's just stuff we have got to cope with.

"Obviously he is disappointed because he's such a big part of how we play our football and what we've created here so I know he'll be working hard, whatever the timeline to get back."
