*THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR CALL THE MIDWIFE SERIES FINALE*
Call The Midwife's series finale proved to be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster, as a death devastated fans, while hearts were warmed when a character everyone was concerned for made a heart warming appearance at Trixie and Matthew's wedding.
After the final episode of series 12 was pushed back a week so this year's BAFTAs could be shown in the same slot on BBC One on February 19, the highly anticipated hour long episode finally aired a week late. And, given that actress Helen George, who plays Trixie, had revealed there was 'tragedy' in the finale, many Call The Midwife devotees were left fearing for much loved nun Sister Monica Joan, given that she was in a bad way when the credits rolled a fortnight earlier.
Helen's hint at sadness in the finale led many fans to draw the conclusion that someone wouldn't make it out alive and that someone proved to be Lizzie Yue, an expectant mum, who died after sustaining a head injury in a car accident.

After a rather uneventful first 45 minutes, things took a turn in the space of a few minutes, with the crash, which saw Dr Turner and Shelagh rush to Lizzie's aid, her death and then Dr Turner hastily delivering her baby safely, as Lizzie's partner was left distraught.
The centre piece of this year's Call The Midwife was always going to be Trixie's wedding to Matthew and, that thankfully went without a hitch in the end, with Viewers around the country left dabbing their eyes as Sister Monica made it to the ceremony, after things were looking bleak for her, ensuring things had a happy ending.
Call The Midwife is set to return for a Christmas special this December, before series 13 kicks off in early 2024.
