"Call of Duty's" 2026 game now has a massive buzz as it has been confirmed that "Modern Warfare 4" will be the next title in the franchise. Activision and Infinity Ward are now bringing more good news after confirming more details about the game and its story.
One of the largest changes in this year's release is its arrival on the Switch 2 for the first time, and it supports Microsoft's previous claims that it will expand titles to more systems, including Nintendo's.
'Call of Duty' Officially Confirms 'Modern Warfare 4'
Activision has officially revealed "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4," a return to Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare sub-series after a three-year hiatus. The most recent title under the Modern Warfare series is "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III," which launched back in 2023 and is best known as a remake of the original 2011 game.
Infinity Ward, the original developer behind the sub-series, is back at the helm for this entry, giving long-time fans of the franchise a reason to return.
The game will be the first current-gen-only "Call of Duty" game of this generation as it will no longer be released to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Alongside this, Activision Blizzard also announced that "Call of Duty Warzone" will be shut down on the PS4 and Xbox One later this year.
'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4' Plot Details
The single-player campaign of the upcoming game will put players in the shoes of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier experiencing live combat for the first time as North Korea invades his homeland. Infinity Ward promises a globe-trotting campaign that also takes players to New York, Paris, and Mumbai.
Series veteran Captain Price is also back, returning as an outlaw on a personal revenge mission and drawn toward a weapon powerful enough to shift the balance of global power and start a massive conflict.
Infinity Ward is promising a new weapon-first technology stack that unifies precision aiming, physical handling, realistic audio propagation, enhanced visibility, and smarter combat perception in the multiplayer aspect of it.
The game will launch with 12 core maps, with fan-favorite modes like Search and Destroy and Domination returning alongside new ones. The game will also feature the return of the DMZ mode that many fans loved over the years.
New 'COD' Game Also Coming to Switch 2
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Switch 2. The Switch 2 version marks the franchise's debut on a Nintendo platform for the first time since 2013.
This version of the game is being developed by Infinity Ward in partnership with mobile-focused studio Digital Legends.
The game launches on October 23 and will be followed by the release of Season 1 soon after.
