Three San Joaquin Valley counties confirmed their first human West Nile virus infections of 2026 in the same week, pushing California's statewide total to six, double the three cases recorded at this point last year and more than twice the five-year average of 2.4.
Tulare, Kings, and Fresno counties each reported a single case, according to reporting by the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative published by KVPR. None of the three counties released details about where the infections occurred or information about the patients. Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties have each reported one case as well.
