California Man Survives 10 Days Lost In Mountains

The Brooks mountain range spreads out to the horizon in northern Alaska

A California man, Lukas McClish, 34, recently made headlines after being stranded in the Santa Cruz Mountains for ten days. McClish had embarked on what was supposed to be a three-hour hike on June 11 but lost his way due to the destruction of local landmarks caused by recent wildfires.

His family reported him missing on June 16 when he failed to show up for a Father's Day dinner. Search and rescue efforts were initiated, and McClish was eventually located on Thursday with the help of a drone from the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office in Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

Despite being lost in the wilderness, McClish managed to survive with no major injuries. He was described as 'tired and a little sore' upon being found and reunited with his family. McClish shared that during his ordeal, he had only the clothes he was wearing, a flashlight, a pair of folding scissors, and a gallon of water per day to sustain himself.

McClish credited his survival to staying hydrated by drinking ample water. He mentioned that as he neared the end of his water supply, his body began to crave food and sustenance. The search and rescue operation involved multiple workers who tirelessly worked to locate him, an experience that McClish found humbling and described as 'awesome.'
