California Employers Will no Longer be Able to Fire People Just Using AI

Starting July 1, 2027, employers across the state can't rely solely on software to discipline or fire a worker.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom last week signed the No Robo Bosses Act, SB 947, which determines that as ofJuly 1, 2027, employers across the state can't rely solely on software to discipline or fire a worker.

If technology is the main factor in the decision, the employer must back it up with other evidence, like manager evaluations. Workers also must be told in writing and have the right to ask what data was used.
