Top actress Caitriona Balfe has opened up about worrying about feeling “unconfident” walking the red carpet at the premiere of Belfast, weeks after she welcomed her first child.
Balfe walked the red carpet wearing a stunning golden pleated dress by Stella McCartney at the 65th BFI London Film Festival back in October.
But now the Monaghan native revealed she was feeling very “unconfident” ahead of the premiere as she had only given birth to her son several weeks previous.
Speaking to Glamour’s Editor-in-Chief Samantha Barry, Caitriona said of her favourite dress on the Belfast press tour was “the first one. The Stella (McCartney) for AZ Factory that I wore to the London premiere because my son was very new and I was feeling very unconfident about myself and I put that dress on and it made me feel great so that is my favourite.”
The golden pleated dress with large, structural shoulders floated around her, moving in waves as she walked the carpet and posed with co-stars. She accessorised the piece with some simple Jessica McCormack jewels and her hair pulled back.
McCartney designed the golden dress for the AZ Factory’s “Love Brings Love” tribute show for Elbaz, who passed away in April of Covid-19. She joined 44 other designers who also created pieces in honour of the late designer.
Balfe also revealed during their chat that she is “going back to work very soon” and has decided to put her plans of travelling after the pandemic on hold for at least a year until her son is older.
She said: “Travel is vastly more complicated now that I have a little one. We’ve come to LA right now and unfortunately you have to think about it. It took him so long to get his sleep back in pattern, jet lag is not fun for anybody with a little one.
"And I’m going back to work very soon so unfortunately I think even though the first thing I said after the pandemic was I want to go travelling, I think that’s going to be put on pause for about another year.”
“Not because I would rule it out, but I think they would rule me out. I can’t ever see myself in a musical.
“Yeah, but you don’t hear me singing,” sh saide laughing.
After the mammoth Belfast press tour, Caitriona said she was looking forward to getting home to her own bed.
“It’ll just be really lovely to be back in our home and be in my own and have our own things in our place,” she added.
