Cairnryan ferry traffic alert as £25,000 overnight drainage works planned for A77 in Girvan

Ferry traffic looks set to be impacted by a £25,000 drainage investigation project on the A77 in Girvan.

The works will be carried out between Vicarton Street and Henrietta Street in the South Ayrshire town which means people using the port at Cairnryan, Wigtownshire will have to leave a little extra time for their journeys.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the network management contract for the south-west trunk road unit, have scheduled them to run from Monday, August 8 to Wednesday, August 17.

Maintenance teams will work overnight between the hours of 8pm and 6am. The road will reopen outwith these times.

The work will take place overnight under progressive single lane closures managed by a temporary traffic light system.

It's hoped the work will benefit road users by uncovering how best to improve the drainage system at this location.

This is part of an overall strategy to tackle frequent flooding sites on the roads network.

An Amey spokesperson added: "All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable."
