Cafe puts the art in finals party with Knights #1 fan mural

It took five and a half hours, but they got it done.

The team at The Junction's Goodfriends Eatery is helping paint the town red and blue, working well into the night on Tuesday to install a mural that has already drawn a crowd.

Meg Crawford, whose sister Penny Chalhoub owns the cafe, said the huge blank wall on the side presented the perfect opportunity to help spread Knights fever.

"We just bit the bullet and were like, 'We've got to do it'," Ms Crawford said.

"So we hired the projector, mocked up the picture and it took five-and-a-half hours last night with four adults and four kids helping. We got it done about 11.30pm."

They aren't the first to pick up a paintbrush to give the Newcastle Knights the grand final support they deserve.

Other supporters, such as New Lambton couple Samuel and Teigan Jobbins, painted their St James Road house in Knights colours with help from their friends Mathew and Rhiannon Casserly.

Knights member and professional painter Lachlan Gray was also putting the finishing touches of red and blue stripes on his Waratah home on Monday afternoon with help from his brother Nathan.

Ms Crawford said people started rocking up Wednesday morning to get their photo taken with the new mural.

"Everyone in town is just so on board, it's unreal," Ms Crawford said.

"Even last night when we were painting it, we had people coming down the street beeping their horns and yelling out the window."

It was a true family affair, with Ms Crawford's cousin Luke, who conveniently owns a house painting business, helping make the idea a reality.

"We asked him, and he was like, 'I've been waiting my whole life to be asked to do this'," Ms Crawford said.

"It was very much a team effort, but we got there.

"I remember '97, I remember 2001, I'm never surprised by how Newcastle comes together for this team."
