More than half (56 per cent) of Brits think their local corner shop owners are the nation’s unsung heroes and to celebrate this Cadbury has launched its Big Win-Win competition offering cash prizes for entrants and their local corner store.
The survey conducted by Cadbury showed that nine in 10 Brits shop at local corner stores and visit them twice a week on average. Two thirds (68 per cent) said they rely on them, however over half (62 per cent) admitted they don’t know their shopkeeper’s name.
The research also revealed that more than four in five (86 per cent) Brits said corner stores are an important part of their local community, with almost three-quarters (72 per cent) saying their corner store has saved their day by being open when other stores weren’t.
Here’s everything you need to know about Cadbury’s competition in partnership with former EastEnders star-turned-shopkeeper Nitin Ganatra.

The survey also revealed why Brits choose to shop at their local corner stores. Most (71 per cent) agreed it is convenient, 26 per cent said it is an important part of their community and they want to support the shop owner, 24 per cent said the shopkeeper is friendly and 14 per cent said the shop stocks their favourite items.
Victoria Grzymek, a brand manager at Cadbury, commented: “The people behind the counters that we visit each day are such an important part of our every day. They show appreciation for our custom and give us a lift whenever we may need it most. Our research even showed that 64 per cent agree their local corner store worker puts a smile on people’s face.
We are so excited to launch the Big Win-Win competition, to shine a light on the owners and workers of corner shops and give people the opportunity to win a cash prize for both themselves, and their local corner store too. With true generosity at its core, the campaign shows how much we care about these important cornerstones of British society and that there really is a glass and a half in all of us.”
