Second Death Confirmed in South Bronx Legionnaires Cluster as City Says All Positive Cooling Towers Were Disinfected

South Bronx Disease Melrose Bacteria the Health Department the South Bronx

A second person has died in connection with the Legionnaires' disease cluster in the South Bronx, the New York City Health Department confirmed on Thursday, September 17. Thirteen people have now tested positive in parts of Melrose and Morrisania, covering ZIP codes 10451 and 10456.

Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin said in a statement reported by ABC7 New York that "we mourn the loss of each New Yorker." He added that all cooling towers that tested positive in initial screening have been disinfected.
