Valve has officially confirmed that Cache is returning to CS2 next week. On April 24, the official CS2 account posted a video asking “What are you doing next week?” alongside a video full of iconic Cache highlights from the map’s history in the professional map pool. The video included legendary highlights such as Spencer “Hiko” Martin’s A-retake and Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s noscope one-vs-two against Fnatic.
The teaser ended months of speculation and marks the first time the beloved map will be playable in CS2. Valve had earlier changed its X banner to Cache’s T-spawn textures, mirroring a tactic used before the Train remake.
Valve’s remake of Cache for CS2
Cache has been in Valve’s hands since 2025, when it purchased the map outright from original creator FMPONE. Valve officially confirmed the remake was under development in Jan. 2026 in a reply to esports org NAVI. Valve’s version likely differs from FMPONE’s CS2 update for the map, which was stated to be complete as far back as March 2025.

The upcoming release will first roll out in Competitive matchmaking before entering the Premier pool, and the professional map pool, after IEM Cologne Major 2026. With the significant performance toll of the late-CS:GO version, optimization will likely be a key priority for Valve’s remake of the map.
As for the current map pool, Ancient or Overpass are considered the likely candidates for removal, but the developer could also take a fan favorite like Mirage or Inferno out of the rotation.
Cache’s return is one of the most anticipated additions to the game’s map pool since the launch of CS2. Ever since the map’s remake debuted at the ESL One New York 2019 showmatch, fans have consistently asked for its inclusion in the pool. With a Valve-built remake, improved performance, and now a set release date, the community’s wait is finally over.
