South Lanarkshire Council has announced the closure of a section of Strathaven Road in Hamilton for almost three months to allow for essential works.
The stretch which will be worked on from June 20 until September 5 is from the junction with Ballantyne Drive to the junction with Muttonhole Road.
The programme of work relates to infrastructure improvement to facilitate housing development and includes the upgrading and placement of new utility and service connections.
A diversion route will be in place via A723 Strathaven Road, A723 Commercial Road, A726 Glasgow Road, A726 Strathaven Road, A726 Kingsway, A725 Hamilton Road, B7071 Bellshill Road, B7071 Bothwell Road, A72 Muir Street, A72 Palace Grounds Road, A723 Blackswell Lane, A723 Low Patrick Street, A723 Gateside Street, A723 Low Waters Road & A723 Strathaven Road.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s community and enterprise resources committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
“The reason for the duration of the closure is that there are multiple services being installed at the same time so in the long run it should reduce any future disruption.
“The diversion route is a lengthy one, so it makes sense to avoid the area if you can while the works are taking place, and if you cannot then please leave extra time for your journey.”
Access will be maintained throughout the closure for local residents only, who stay within the closed section.
