Burnley 0-5 Arsenal: Bukayo Saka nets brace as Gunners run riot again to close gap to Liverpool

Arsenal made it five wins in a row as Bukayo Saka scored a brace in 5-0 hammering of Burnley at Turf Moor.

Liverpool’s win over Brentford earlier in the day had moved them five points clear at the top, but the Gunners responded in fine fashion to reduce the deficit back to two and keep themselves firmly in the Premier League title race.

Saka took his Premier League tally for the season to 12 goals, with Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz also on target for the rampant Gunners.

Picking up from where they left off in the big win over West Ham, Arsenal did not even need five minutes to take the lead, as Gabriel Martinelli picked out Odegaard and the captain fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Burnley never looked like causing the Gunners any real problems and the lead was doubled before the break. Leandro Trossard was brought down in the box and Bukayo Saka made no mistake from the spot, despite James Trafford going the right way.

Saka needed only 88 seconds of the second-half to double his tally, getting on the end of Odegaard’s clever pass and hammering a right-footed strike into the roof of the net.

That effectively ended the match as a contest, if it wasn’t over already, but there was more misery to come for Burnley, who are off the bottom of the table on goal difference only.

Jakub Kiwior’s ball into the box found Kai Havertz, he could not get a shot away, but the ball fell for Leandro Trossard to get on the scoresheet, the Belgian finally getting on the scoresheet having already gone close on a number of occasions.

The party had long since started in the away end but the mood was improved further as Havertz made it five, making a smart run in behind, skipping inside and finishing well to cap a perfect afternoon for Arsenal.
