A Welsh council has announced burials planned for the day of the Queen’s funeral will have to be rearranged. Caerphilly Borough Council has confirmed no burials will take place at its ten cemeteries on Monday, September 19, which has been declared a bank holiday to mark the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
However, despite posting on its website that “municipal cemeteries will be closed for the day” the council has confirmed that, while no burials will take place, the sites will be open for people to visit. Cremations at the Gwent Crematorium in Cwmbran can go ahead as planned.
Newport City Council, which is responsible for the crematorium in Croesyceiliog, has said families can, however, choose to re-arrange services planned for Monday. Funerals planned for council-run cemeteries in Newport can also go ahead with families again able to rearrange them for another date if they wish.
