Emergency services are responding to a truck that rolled north of Wollongong, spilling thousands of litres of paint onto the road.
The truck was delivering six tonnes of paint to Bunnings Warehouse sites in the Illawarra when it lost control while taking on a hairpin turn at Bulli Pass.
The vehicle rolled on to its side, spilling the paint tins onto the road.
"Around half the tins are damaged," Fire and Rescue New South Wales Duty Commander Chad Wallace said.
"There is around 1,000 litres of paint that has flown onto the road and up to 2,000 litres that are now liquid inside the back of the truck."
One lane of Bulli Pass has reopened to traffic and emergency services are working to remove the water-based paint.
"Fire and Rescue NSW has called in specialist Hazmat teams from Shellharbour and as far away as Sydney to assist in the clean-up," Mr Wallace said.
"Any paint spill is hard to clean up, but when it is six tonnes it will take many hours."
Emergency services used shovels to create a dam to prevent the paint from travelling down the steep road.
The driver is unhurt and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
"The driver had a very lucky escape and managed to get out of the truck himself," Mr Wallace said.
"It was also a miracle no other cars were taken out as they were going up or coming down Bulli Pass."
