Authorities are urging Canberra commuters to avoid Northbourne Avenue as they travel into the city on Thursday morning after a building fire closed a lane.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency said a southbound lane of the busy thoroughfare was likely to be closed "for some time" after a fire, reported about 7am Thursday.
"There has been a structure fire at the intersection of Elouera Street and Northbourne Avenue in Braddon," the agency said in a statement.
"One southbound lane of Northbourne Avenue will be closed between Elouera Street and Cooyong Street for some time. Please avoid the area and take an alternative route into the city."
