The Houston Texans found their guy in Lovie Smith.
The defensive and coordinator and associate head coach from a year ago will now put on the big headsets as the Texans seek to complete their rebuild. For a club that has posted four wins in the past two seasons, hiring Smith is seen as the catalyst to push Houston back to the top.
That was the hope of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, coming off the Greg Schiano two-year experiment. Smith didn’t have much success in his second coaching job as Tampa Bay went 2-14 his first season and 6-10 the next.
