Bruno Fernandes and Mikel Arteta agree on 'special' Fabio Vieira to give Edu £34m approval

Bruno Fernandes has echoed Mikel Arteta's thoughts on Fabio Vieira following the midfielder's move to Arsenal from Porto. The Gunners welcomed the 22-year-old to the Emirates Stadium this summer, making the Portugal international Edu's third signing of the summer.

Vieira, who penned a five year deal in north London, featured 27 times for the Portuguese giants in Liga Nos, directly contributing towards 20 goals. His impressive displays steered Porto to a league title and the Taca de Portugal, attracting attention from some of Europe's leading clubs though it was Arsenal who won the race.

And, it's fair to say that Arteta was pleased to welcome Vieira to London Colney, with the Gunners enjoying a fruitful summer spending spree. The Spaniard hailed the abilities of the youngster and, speaking to the club’s official website earlier this month, he said: "I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.

"Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season."

Vieira's move to the Premier League has won many plaudits - one of whom is Manchester United talisman Fernandes. Singing from a similar hymn sheet to Arteta, he highlighted the Arsenal midfielder's ‘quality’, outlining his desire to see his fellow countryman shine - except for against the Red Devils.

Speaking to reporters in Portugal, he said: “I welcome all Portuguese players who go abroad, I hope he can shine to the fullest, except against me. Fábio has a lot of quality and has been demonstrating that, whether in the FC Porto is in the Under-21s, he has had good numbers and good performances.

"I hope he succeeds like all the Portuguese out there. We have to start valuing what is ours and I hope that Fábio manages to be as good as possible, despite of wanting to stay ahead."

Vieira has been welcomed as Arsenal's third signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Marquinhos and Matt Turner. The Gunners have continued to be linked with the likes of Youri Tielemans and Gabriel Jesus as Arteta looks to rectify the Gunners' Champions League qualification misery last season.
