Broncos set to select 29th overall in 2023 NFL draft

Following the San Francisco 49ers’ loss in the NFC championship game, the Denver Broncos are now scheduled to select 29th overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft (full draft order here).

The Broncos got that Niners pick through the Miami Dolphins in the Bradley Chubb trade last fall. Unless they decide to trade the pick for Sean Payton, Denver is set to have a bottom-three pick in the first round.

There will be fewer picks than usual in the first round this year because the Dolphins had to forfeit their original first-round pick after the NFL determined that Miami tampered with Tom Brady and Sean Payton while the quarterback and coach were still employed by other teams.

The Dolphins would have held pick No. 21 overall but with that selection forfeited, the NFL will have 31 total picks in the first round this year instead of the usual 32. So the Super Bowl winner will select 31st overall and the title game’s loser will select 30th overall.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ current order of picks:

Round 1: No. 29 via 49ers through Dolphins
Round 3: own pick

Round 3: via Colts (2022 draft trade)
Round 4: own pick
Round 5: own pick
Round 6: via Steelers (Malik Reed trade)

The specific pick numbers for each round will be finalized after the NFL awards compensatory picks.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.
