Has there ever been a division with four better quarterbacks in NFL history than the AFC West in 2022? Unlikely.
The Denver Broncos are acquiring Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster trade that will finally allow Denver to compete again in their highly competitive division.
Simply put, Wilson is a star. He’s a nine-time Pro Bowler, a Super Bowl champion and the 2020 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
He’s certainly not the only star in the AFC West, though.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is well known even by casual football fans. He’s a four-time Pro Bowler, a league MVP, a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP. And he’s done all that in four years.
The Los Angeles Chargers have Justin Herbert, one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league. After winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2020, Herbert made the Pro Bowl in his second season.
There’s “also” Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, a three-time Pro Bowler who averages nearly 4,000 passing yards per season. Carr would be much more than an afterthought in any other division.
The AFC West is now full of exciting QBs, and that’s going to make for some thrilling division showdowns this fall. Wilson, Mahomes, Herbert and Carr all facing each other twice a season will be must-watch TV.
