Brits stuck for two hours outside Amsterdam airport due to half term holiday chaos

British holidaymakers were stuck outside Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport for two hours with flights setting off without passengers who were in the long queues.

The queues stretched from outside the building through to security while the airport blamed 'staff shortages' for the extensive delays. Passengers claimed they were left waiting around for two hours while spending an extra hour in various lines once they were inside the terminal.

EasyJet customers in the queue were already facing additional delays after their Saturday flights were cancelled because of "IT issues". Passengers flying into bristol claimed they were forced to leave without all passengers on board which further dragged the delays as hold baggage was unloaded.

“Being stuck at Schiphol airport was really anxiety inducing - it was complete chaos,” said one EasyJet customer. There was no order to the queue system - people were pushing in.

“I have an anxiety disorder which I felt like I had to mention to staff to try and cut through the line. People were behaving like animals."

Meanwhile, at Manchester Airport, massive queues could be seen throughout the hectic weekend. The airport experienced various delays to flights which left families waiting at the gates for hours longer than planned.

Manchester Airport has said there are no issues with security, and it appears a large number of TUI flights were being affected by delays and long queues.

On Sunday, the scores of disgruntled passengers contacted the Manchester Evening News. One told of how she and fellow travellers had to wait in their seats on the runway for up to four hours after their flights were delayed. People said they witness devastated families being sent away with children crying. Some even saw their flights delayed overnight.

"It has just been chaos. We waited for six hours and had no idea if our holiday would be going ahead. We were in the main lounge waiting and then we were told to go to the gate," One passenger said.
