Brits left in tears of laughter at man skiing down road after heavy snow hits country

A man has been spotted skiing down the middle of a road as heavy snow hits most of the UK, leaving those who spotted him in stitches.

He was spotted braving the elements as he was photographed gliding past a Greggs bakery on Aberdeen's Union Street in Scotland.

Dressed in waterproof clothing and carrying a backpack, the man appeared to have sold his morning commute issues.

The images was share on Facebook as the snow sparked hazardous driving conditions and school closures.

People raced to the comments section to add their jokes about his innovative solution to travel problems.

One said: "At least he's not stuck in traffic!"

While another quipped: "And finally the middle aisle in Aldi pays off!"

Another said: "Now there's a genius idea - re-instate Union Street as a winter resort. No chair-lifts required!"

And another one added: "Ingenious! At least he's getting where he's going unlike all the motorists."

The Met Office has issued a five-day weather alert and The National Grid has fires up its emergency coal stations.

It was the coldest night of the year so far in the UK last night, as temperatures plummeted to -15.2C at Kinbrace in the Scottish Highlands.

Dozens of schools in the Scottish Highlands and Wales have already announced closures due to treacherous snowy conditions. In England, schools as far south as Hampshire have closed due to snow.

Police have issued a warning against travel in some parts of the south, as Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and Surrey are hit by snowfalls.

Northern regions recorded snow overnight and there have already been road closures and vehicles left stranded.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a lever three cold weather alert for the whole of England.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for the next three days as Arctic winds bring a sharp change in conditions.

An alert for snow and ice is in place today for a large area covering Scotland and the North East, with southern and central England also under a similar warning.
