Britney Spears says her anti 'woman shaming' rant was 'not about Selena Gomez'.
Fans were sent into a frenzy when the 'Toxic' hitmaker seemingly took aim at the musician, appearing to reference an awards acceptance speech from 2016.
Popstar Britney, 40, was thought to be ranting about Selena, 30, and a particular comment she made at the American Music Awards.
Six years ago, when accepting the best Female Pop/Rock Artist gong, Selena said: "I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here," gesturing to her heart.
Fans wrongly assumed Britney was blasting this moment when she took to her own Instagram to claim she is 'not trying to get validation' with her naked snaps.
Now, the Gimme More songstress has set the record straight, confirming what she said had "nothing to do with anyone specific".
"Let me clarify about me sharing my beliefs on women judging other women for their own rights in expressing themselves," she said in a lengthy statement on Instagram.
She added: "A strong woman stands up for herself. A stronger woman stands up for everybody else. What I said had nothing to do with anyone specific at all.
"It was clearly a subject in hand all women have had to deal with … look I go way back with music!
"I honestly referencing my days when I was younger when I got discriminated against harshly … men in interviews discussing my boobs on live TV or showing my midriff and skin!
"If anybody knows what judgment feels like I’m sure Selena has gone through something pretty similar."
In her original explosive rant, which has since been edited, she wrote: "Don’t you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about now showing their bodies on Instagram???
"They say ‘This is NOT something I would do’ yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream!!!!"
The ice cream jibe is thought to be a reference to the 2020 song Selena did with South Korean pop group BLACKPINK called Ice Cream.
"These other girls have nothing but beautiful bodies!!! Who cares if they flaunt it??? THEY SHOULD!!!" Britney continued.
"So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don’t be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams...."
She added: "Why would you stand firmly against girls getting attention JUST LIKE YOU and they have absolutely nothing???"
