Britney Spears made her music return this year with a duet with Elton John - but a fully formed solo outing may well be in the works.
The 40-year-old pop sensation last released a solo record in 2016 with the release of her ninth studio album, Glory - which was reissued in 2020.
Earlier this month, her vocals featured on Sir Elton’s mash up single Hold Me Closer - which combined lyrics and music from his singles Tiny Dancer, The One and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - which has peaked at number 3 in the UK so far.
Fans of Britney are desperate for the singer to return to the studio and record new solo material after effectively six years of solo silence.
TMZ have shared an interview from Open House Party with American record producer Benny Bianco - who has collaborated with Britney in the past and hints they may have new work in the pipeline.
Asked if he has been in touch with Britney to discuss making new music, 34-year-old Benny said: “I actually recently just reached out to try to start working on some stuff.
“Like a month ago. I hope [to work with Britney] soon.”
Asked what they discussed during their call, Benny continued: “We were talking about trying to do something. I love her new things she put out.”
He added: “She’s incredible. I hope she is doing it.”
Britney and Benny previously worked together on her 2008 single Circus which they co-wrote with Dr Luke and Claude Kelly.
Last year, Britney was released form a 13-year conservatorship which had handed her personal and financial decisions to her father.
During that time, the singer released music and performed on stage - but since the conservatorship ended, the star has revealed she felt forced to perform, and with proceeds being directed to others in her entourage.
Taking to Instagram last November, Britney explained that she may not record new music as she processed how she had been treated and forced to perform in a specific way.
She wrote: “I asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs … I had two months off in between each show settings for four years in Vegas … and every time I asked I was told 'No…'.
“It didn’t make sense how network television shows are showcasing my music with remixes of all my music… yet the person who owns the music is told no!”
“So much wasted time to only embarrass me and humiliate me and I guess it seems odd to most now why I don’t even do my music anymore… that’s just the surface issues. People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally… and after what I’ve been through, I’m scared of people and the business.”
She added: “Not doing my music anymore is my way of saying 'F**k You' in a sense when it only actually benefits my family by ignoring my real work."
Since then, Britney has collaborated with Sir Elton John, giving rise to hopes she will release solo music of her own once more.
