British boy Alfie Andrew, 12, gets standing ovation after appearing on America's Got Talent

A 12-year-old British boy enjoyed a standing ovation from the judges after appearing on America's Got Talent. Alfie Andrew, who is used to busking in Manchester and wowing shoppers with his vocals, appeared across the pond on the major US show on Tuesday (June 13).

Alfie, from Reddish, belted out Hold My Hand, a high-powered ballad by Lady Gaga to a roaring applause from the audience. Watch it here.

And the clip of his audition, in which judge Sofía Vergara told him he was 'going to be a rock star', has already received almost two million views on Youtube and earned him quite the following on social media.

Alfie is no stranger to performing, having previously been filmed singing the likes of Whitney Houston to shoppers along Market Street as many stopped in awe to watch the youngster.

The Manchester Evening News previously spoke to Alfie's dad, Ste, who confessed that Alfie was 'trying to sing before he could talk' at the age of just one, mimicking Jessie J on stage at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The youngster, who attends Priestnall High School in Heaton Mersey, previously went viral on social media site TikTok and made headlines after he was seen busking in Manchester to raise money for the children of Ukraine, back in March last year.

The 12-year-old also regularly shares videos of himself singing songs to his Facebook page, including to the likes of Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish and Celine Dion.

"Singing is all he has ever wanted to do. He isn't like a typical kid playing video games - he comes straight in from school and just wants to go upstairs and sing," his dad Ste said.

After auditioning for America's Got Talent, created by music mogul Simon Cowell, Alfie brought the crowd to their feet with his rendition of 'Hold My Hand' before going through to the next round after getting a 'yes' from Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofía Vergara

Following his performance, filmed in Los Angeles, Cowell told him: "You've made the right decision to come here. People are going to remember you and they're going to root for you. You're so cool. I just can't get over that."

Cowell then got up on stage with the youngster before meeting his auntie, who had been supporting from the wings, remarking: "How good was that?" as excited crowds cheered his name.
