British boxer Tyson Fury says his cousin was fatally stabbed in England

A cousin of boxer Tyson Fury was fatally stabbed Saturday night in England, the two-time heavyweight champion said Sunday.

Fury wrote in an Instagram post that Rico Burton was fatally stabbed in the neck, calling it “ridiculous” that “idiots carry knives” in the United Kingdom.

“Government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime, its a pandemic & you dont know how bad it is until its 1 of your own!” the British-born Fury posted, along with an image reading “Stop Knife Crime.”

“Life is very precious & it can be taken away very quick,” Fury continued. “Enjoy every moment.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Burton, 31, died after suffering a stab wound in a “disturbance” in the Goose Green neighborhood of Altrincham. An unidentified 17-year-old also suffered a stab wound, police said.

Two men, ages 20 and 21, have been arrested in connection with the incident, according to police.

“Firstly, may I take this opportunity to pass on my sincere condolences the family and friends of Rico at the very difficult time,” Detective Superintendent Ben Ewart said Sunday.

“Greater Manchester Police have launched a Murder investigation and specialist officers are supporting the victim’s family.”

Police say the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. local time.

“This was a senseless act and both victims should have returned home this morning after enjoying a night out with friends,” Ewart continued.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was at the popular night spot of Goose Green in Altrincham overnight or who may have information in connection with this incident. Any photographs, videos or CCTV footage would also be extremely valuable in aiding our investigations.”
