British Airways, easyJet, Jet2: Flight attendant shares hack to carry extra bag for free on all airlines

Packing for a holiday can be challenging, especially if you are flying with a budget airline that has strict rules around carrying on extra bags.

From packing your case to making sure you've got all the right paperwork, getting ready to go on holiday can be extremely time-consuming. There's nothing worse than something going wrong at the airport, but now a flight attendant has shared a simple hack to ensure your luggage will all be allowed onto the airplane - and it works with all airlines.

Now, flight attendant Miguel Muñoz, has provided a genius hack that allows you to take an extra bag with you on your flight. Miguel, who has been an air steward for over 10 years, shared his top tip with Express.co.uk.

Nicknaming it the "duty-free hack", he revealed how by using a duty-free carrier bag passengers can bring an extra bag with them on their flight, as "duty-free bags don't count as carry-on baggage". Most people aren't aware of this rule, and for those who find it difficult to ensure their belongings all fit into one case or that your luggage weighs the right amount, it could be a game-changer.

Miguel explained: "If you have something that doesn't fit in your suitcase or you want to bring an extra bag on board, here's the trick. All you have to do is carry a duty-free bag. Or ask for one at the duty-free shop and you place whatever you want in the shopping bag."

While he did state that there is "obviously limited space" on flights, at least "you are bringing an extra bag to the cabin with you".

Many airlines, such as easyJet and Ryan Air, have strict luggage policies in place, and only allow travellers to have one small bag with them as carry-on luggage for free, and it must fit under the seat. Most airlines will charge passengers who bring an extra carry-on bag or luggage with them. Miguel's clever trick can also be used if your luggage is over the required weight and the airline is attempting to charge you for the extra weight.

You can simply remove certain items from your case to decrease the weight, and then take them on board with you in a duty-free bag. Miguel added: "Now you know. If you ever find yourself in that situation, just put whatever you need in a duty-free bag. You are welcome!"

He also explained how he even using the duty-free hack himself when jetting off, and that most crew members won't realise what you're doing.

"I know the trick because I always do this when I fly as a passenger," he said.
